Free Range is a landmark initiative founded by the Truman Brewery in 2000, created to support and showcase emerging creative talent from across the UK. Originally launched to provide students outside of London with a chance to exhibit in Shoreditch’s growing creative hub, Free Range has since become a vital platform for new voices in art and design.
In the early 2000s, Shoreditch was still an emerging area, and the Truman Brewery’s vast, flexible warehouse spaces offered students a rare opportunity to take creative risks, collaborate, and present their work on their own terms. Those formative years were famously raw and hands-on—many participants even slept in their exhibition spaces, fully embracing the DIY spirit that defined the era.

Over the past two decades, Free Range has evolved into one of the UK’s leading platforms for graduate creatives. While it once featured a wide range of disciplines—including graphic design, fashion, illustration, and product design—recent editions have focused more closely on photography and fine art, with photography now making up the largest group of exhibitors.

However, there remains strong interest in diverse and emerging disciplines. This is reflected through curated showcases, special projects, and ongoing collaborations that continue to broaden the scope of the programme.
Each summer, Free Range takes over a series of recognised dry hire event spaces within the Truman Brewery, transforming them into a vibrant hub for graduate exhibitions.

Vegan Nights is East London’s iconic plant-based party — a high-energy fusion of street food, music, and community that brings together the best of the UK’s vegan scene. Held at the Truman Brewery in Shoreditch, Vegan Nights transforms the venue into a buzzing, open-air celebration of all things plant-based.

What started in 2017 as a one-off vegan street food market has grown into a full-blown movement. Today, Vegan Nights is home to dozens of independent vendors, dishing up next-level plant-based bites from burgers and bao to Caribbean, Korean, desserts, and more. Whether you’re vegan, vegan-curious, or just hungry — you’re welcome.

But it’s more than just food. With live DJs, immersive installations, and a diverse crowd of food lovers, creatives, and conscious consumers, Vegan Nights is a place to connect, dance, eat, and discover. It’s where culture and plant-based living collide — and everyone’s invited.

Fashion East is the leading designer support scheme discovering, nurturing and showcasing emerging fashion designers at London Fashion Week and London Fashion Week Men's. We provide designers with showcasing opportunities, bursaries, and expert business advice and mentoring. The non-profit organisation launched in 2000 by the Truman Brewery and Lulu Kennedy MBE in East London.
