Frustration stems from the inability to materialise the need to create.

September 2011 marks 20 years since the release of Nirvana’s seminal album Nevermind, the record that forever changed the course of music history. In Bloom: The Nirvana Nevermind Exhibition, looks at the music and history of the Seattle grunge luminaries and highlights the unique relationship this most influential of bands enjoyed with their UK fans.
The exhibition hosts an abundance of band memorabilia and other treasured artifacts, plus rarely seen photographs from the likes of Steve Gullick, Steven Double and Martyn Goodacre, tour posters and interactive displays, all capturing the teen spirit of the band and their classic album.

In 1968 Dick Proenneke (1916-2003) retired to the mountains of Alaska, to live in a log cabin he built himself, using only hand tools and trees cut from the surrounding forest. This exhibition explores this desire to find another more fundamental way to live, seeing it as an act of self-sufficiency rather than a romantic ideal. It looks at the role of solitude in one’s life and how the physical act of doing something can create a world to inhabit, with the sense of freedom and agency that comes from building a log cabin or making a painting.

In his upcoming new solo show Bray is inspired by the record ‘Great Disasters of the Twentieth Century’ by Georg Lubitzer, on which there is a track called 70 days. “This track inspired me to do a drawing a day for 70 days, whatever style or content of that particular drawing dictated the style or content of the larger drawings...”

His compelling works reveal his lifetime love of drawing and a very active imagination taking the viewer into his dark, amative world of fantasy.

HRL Contemporary presents the long awaited solo debut of emerging artist Benjamin Cohen. Since his emergence in March 2009 with the HRL Contemporary exhibition Return to Reason, Cohen has impressed viewers with his virtuoso displays of brush work, vitally energetic nude forms and bold colours. Cohen's work regularly focuses on lone male figures, arranged in poses which evoke a sense of pathos and abjection, arising out of a tension between strict figuration and dissolution into abstraction. This exhibition will showcase a substantial body of work created over the past two years and will be accompanied by a full colour catalogue containing essays and an interview with the artist. Cohen has already received impressive critical acclaim and exhibited in major national institutions. In 2009 he was one of the last 30 artists out of 28,000 applicants to be considered for the Channel 4 programme ‘Saatchi’s Best of British’. He has exhibited in both the BP Portrait Award (2008) and the Royal Society of Portrait Painters Annual Exhibition (2010)

Shoot Nations is a youth photography project to encourage young people to express their thoughts on global issues through photography and drawings. The project is an initiative of children’s charity Plan UK and interactive photography organisation, Shoot Experience. This year’s competition invited young people across the world to submit images on the theme of ‘City Living’. The competition reached a new record with over 1800 entries from 90 countries. This exhibition will showcase the winning photos alongside a selection of the best photos from around the world.

The Sarenza High Heel Race is renowned and revered in France, and takes place annually across the length and breadth of the country. The race then culminates in an explosive, star studded final in Paris each November where the winning team will receive the ultimate prize of £2,500 worth of shoes from Sarenza. Kids Company has joined the new social benefit entertainment experience, Conspiracy For Good to secure presents for the 2,000 vulnerable children who spend Christmas day with us as they have nowhere else to go. Kids Company is joining the experience created by Emmy award winning storyteller and “Heroes” creator Tim Kring, and powered by Nokia’s Ovi platform, which allows participants to become part of the Conspiracy For Good story and find tools and clues to move the narrative forward both in the online and real worlds. On July 24, Conspiracy For Good’s storyline will be interwoven with a live event to benefit Kids Company. Together we are asking members of the public to contribute to a unique installation by donating a new toy for a child this Christmas. The event will also promote Kids Company’s Peace of Mind campaign www.kidspeaceofmind.org which uses a virtual online brain to raise £5m to change the way vulnerable children in the UK are supported.

24 dogs are put down in the UK every day, because there are not enough funds available to house and take care of these beautiful animals. That’s one dog every hour, an unacceptable figure, and one that the Pedigree Adoption Drive is striving to change. Aiming to raise awareness of the plight of these animals, Pedigree, in conjunction with the Truman Brewery, will present an interactive projection titled Sniff, by artist Karolina Sobecka. ABOUT: SNIFF: public interactive projection *art installation by Karolina Sobecka with software development by James George An animated dog follows the viewer and forms a relationship with him based on the history of their interaction. Sniff hovers between the imaginary and the real. Sniff is the first in the series of installations exploring the process of encounter and behaviors in public space. Creating situations inherently full of tension and ambivalence, they focus on the social mechanisms and the line between the real and constructed social actions and expressions.
